Commentary on wednesday "14th April 2004" class./ Ravi SHARMA

dear all,

they say that an !dea can change your life, coz we
live our life based on our ideas. PG call them
assumptions. anyways, Good !dea.

we have become so habitual of living our life based on
some assumptions that we don't want to look beyond.
the !dea is simple. If you do a favour, you take the
job. And no one wants to question anything in life for
the uncertainty is obvious. So, we are living our
lives on borrowed thoughts. PG rightly says, "kar ke
dekho".
Its to question what has been there for years and is
escaping from our awareness.

that does not mean to corrupt the mind in a new way,
with a new !dea. But the question is that are we
aware. Does that pass from our self - conciousness,
whatever we do. Or we are simply doing what we are
doing. Awarness is the criteria. Whether i eat
ice-cream or not is not a question nor a problem. But
am i aware what i m eating!!

Till now many topics or issues has been raised in the
class and someone told in the class that the solution
was never reached to. there are no solutions and there
can not be a solution to anything. The beauty of the
game is that first you find a problem, make a trap,
fall into it, search for a solution, and that solution
would be another problem. the cycle goes on.

Just one has to remain available. the nature has its
own course. it is continuosly knocking. one has to
open up. be open to new !deas, new thoughts. But mind
it! thoughts are always borrowed. Are we available, or
we have closed the doors, the doors of
self-conciousness.

the issues raised provide a new direction to ponder
upon. And yes, I see !deas coming. Lets try them out.
"Kar ke Dekho"

Ravi Sharma

Session notes of wednesday "14th April 2004" class/ Himanshoo Yadav

Class started with the discussion on the point that everybody wants solutions in his or her life. They donít fully aware of what is going on around them but still they want solutions of situation they are facing. Then class moves towards talk on "ASSUMPTIONS".

Everybody is having his or her assumptions before taking decision for something. The thing is they donít even know where these assumptions came from means the have no evidence of there assumptions. Assumptions come from experience, knowledge or learningís of oneself or of others. Some of the great Assumptions are as follows:

One will fell ill in rain.

One should not drink water after Guava, Banana, and Groundnut.

One cannot sleep without fan or A/C.

If weather will change one will fell ill.

House must be made from bricks, concrete and cement.

Donít go if cat crosses your way.

Sit for some time if someone sneezes just before going to some work.

And the entire holy beliefs (like, touching feet of elders means give respect), which we follow regularly without knowing the evidence for that particular assumption. There is nothing wrong in assuming something but one should think about the evidence for that assumption.

To get more and more comfort in life man started using stuffs like A/C, Fridge, Fans, etc.

If one uses A/C regularly its really very hard to survive without it (Assumption). I can give you an example like some of my friends are working in software firm, they use to work in daytime from Monday to Friday and after that two-day holiday. Now a days they donít want to spend time at home in the daytime because of the hot weather. So they so to office try to do some work and came back in the evening. I asked them why are you doing so. They answered me that its very difficult for them to live without A/C in this summer as there is an option of office where they can get cool air of A/C.

After this class discussion goes towards benefits of yoga for individual, comparing with some of Indian cricket team players. PG gave an example of 6í5" guy who donít think that he has enough energy inside him but after joining yoga classes he got that feeling that he has energy which is totally different from the earlier one. But still most of the people says that " Yoga Se Kya Hoga". The best way to escape from any thing is to say, "What can I do?". Here also people thinks that they are much more comfortable with what they are right now, everybody have there own assumptions for doing thing or not doing things.

This is how we ended the class.

bye,

it's Himanshoo

Why? /Bindu Madhavi

Why is there a deafening silence when an oppurtunity to do something comes up? Does this mean that waht all the people have been talking (mailing about) at length about the community, human rights, and other glorious things of humanity are just for meant to be words? to show what u think of all these? Is this platform only to express the hollow thoughts, contradict and compliment each other?

i am really surprised that not a single person volunteered to my past proposal of spreading Hivre bazar's concept. None is ready to do something for what they have been talking and raising issues about.

Sorry to say but that's really unexpected from a lot who have been literally pouring out passion in their mails from the past 3 odd months.

Food Products to look for/Prithwiraj N. Ghorpade

hey guys..here's an article that was sent to me by a friend...worth looking at carefully..

pg

CANCEROUS FOOD/PRODUCTS

SATAY LOVERS

If you all eat Satay, don't ever forget to eat the cucumber, because
eating Satay together with carbon after barbequing can cause cancer. But we
have a cure for that... Cucumber should be eaten after we eat the Satay
because Satay has carcinogen (a cancer causing element) but cucumber is
anti-carcinogenic. So don't forget to eat the cucumber the next time
you have Satays.

PRAWNS & VITAMIN C

DO NOT eat shrimp/Prawn if you have just taken VITAMIN C pills!! This
will cause you to DIE in ARSENIC (As) toxication within HOURS!!

PORK AWARENESS

Try this and see whether the pork you bought has worms. There goes with your
"Bak Kut Teh" for those who love it. Most men love to eat this so watch
out before it's too late. If you pours Coke (yes, the soda) on a slab of
pork, wait a little while, you will SEE WORMS crawl out of it.

A message from the Health Corporation of Singapore about the Bad
effects of pork consumption. Pig's bodies contain MANY TOXINS, WORMS and LATENT DISEASES.

Although some of these infestations are harboured in other animals,
modern veterinarians say that pigs are far MORE PREDISPOSED to these illnesses
than other animals. This could be because PIGS like to SCAVENGE and will eat
ANY kind of food, INCLUDING dead insects, worms, rotting carcasses, excreta
including their own, garbage, and other pigs. INFLUENZA (flu) is one of
the MOST offensive illnesses which pigs share with humans. This illness is
harboured in the LUNGS of pigs during the summer months and tends to
affect pigs and human in the cooler months. Sausage contains bits of pigs'
lungs, so those who EAT pork sausage tend to SUFFER MORE during EPIDEMICS of
INFLUENZA. Pig meat contains EXCESSIVE quantities of HISTAMINE and
IMIDAZOLE compounds, which can lead to ITCHING and INFLAMMATION; GROWTH HORMONE which PROMOTES INFLAMMATION and growth; sulphur containing mesenchymal mucus which leads to SWELLING and deposits of MUCUS in tendons and cartilage, resulting in ARTHRITIS, RHEUMATISM, etc.

Sulphur helps cause FIRM human tendons and ligaments to be replaced by
the pig's soft mesenchymal tissues, and degeneration of human cartilage.

Eating pork can also lead to GALLSTONES and OBESITY, probably due to
its HIGH CHOLESTEROL and SATURATED FAT content. The pig is the MAIN CARRIER
of the TAENIE SOLIUM WORM, which is found in its flesh. These tapeworms
are found in human intestines with greater frequency in nations where pigs
are eaten. This type of tapeworm can pass through the intestines and affect
many other organs, and is incurable once it reaches beyond a certain stage.
One in six people in the US and Canada has RICHINOSIS from eating trichina
worms, which are found in pork.

Many people have NO SYMPTOMS to warm them of this, and when they do,
they resemble symptoms of many other illnesses. These worms are NOT noticed
during meat inspections.

SHAMPOO

Cancer-causing substance in Shampoo. Go home and check your shampoo.
Change before it's too late... Check the ingredients listed on your shampoo bottle,
and see they have a substance by the name of Sodium Laureth Sulphate,
orsimply SLS. This substance is found in most shampoos; manufacturers use
it because it produces a lot of foam and it is cheap..BUT the fact is, SLS
is used to scrub garage floors, and it is very strong!!! It is also proven
that it can cause cancer in the long run, and this is no joke. Shampoos that contains SLS : VO5, Palmolive, Paul Mitchell, L'Oreal, the new Hemp Shampoo from Body Shop etc., contain this substance.

The first ingredient listed (which means it is the single most
prevalent ingredient) in Clairol's Herbal Essences is Sodium Laureth Sulphate.
Therefore, I called one company, and I told them their product contains
a substance that will cause people to have cancer. They said, Yeah we
knew about it but there is nothing we can do because we need that substance
to produce foam.

By the way Colgate toothpaste also contains the same substance to
produce the "bubbles". They said they are going to send me some information.

Research has shown that in the 1980s, the chance of getting cancer is 1
out of 8000 and now, in the 1990s, the chances of getting cancer is out of
3, which is very serious. Therefore, I hope that you will take this
seriously and pass this on to all the people you know, and hopefully, we can stop
"giving" ourselves cancer-causing agents.

INSTANT NOODLES

Dear instant noodle lovers,

Make sure you break for at least 3 days after one session of instant
noodles before you eat your next packet!
Please read the info shared to me by a doctor. My family stopped eating
instant noodles more than 5 years ago after hearing about the wax coating the noodles - the wax is not just in the Styrofoam containers but it coats the noodles. This is why the instant noodles do not stick to each other when cooking. If one were to examine the ordinary Chinese yellow noodles in the market, one will notice that, in their uncooked state the noodles are
oily.

This layer of oil prevents the noodles from sticking together. Wanton noodles in their uncooked state have been dusted with flour to prevent them sticking together. When the hawker cooks the noodles, notice he cooks them in hot water and then rinses them in cold water before cooking them in hot water again. This process is repeated several times before
the noodles are ready to be served. The cooking and rinsing process
prevents noodles from sticking together. The hawker then "lowers the noodles in
oil and sauce to prevent the noodles from sticking if they are to be served
dry.

Cooking instructions for spaghetti require oil or butter to be added in
the water when boiling the spaghetti to prevent the pasta from sticking
together. Otherwise, one gets a big clump of spaghetti!

There was an SBC (now TCS) actor some years ago, who at a busy time of
his career had no time to cook, resorted to eating instant noodles
everyday. He got cancer later on. His doctor told him about the wax in instant
noodles.

The doctor told him that our body will need up to 2 days to clear the
wax.

There was also an SIA steward who after moving out from his mother's
house into his own house, did not cook but ate instant noodles almost every
meal.

He had cancer, and has since died from it.

Nowadays the instant noodles are referred as "cancer noodles".

*** Pass the info. on, please......

Advantages- Coke & Pepsi !!! / Prithwiraj N. Ghorpade

hey whoever said that pop drinks are no good...they have good reason to be around us...(the apt question may be whether we want to be around them!...but that's another story....)...read on....yeh pyaas hai badi...

pg

How
Coke and Pepsi
are
HELPFUL

To clean a toilet:

Pour a can of Coca-Cola into the toilet bowl. Sit for one hour, then flush clean. The citric acid in Coke removes stains from vitreous china.

To remove rust spots from chrome car bumpers:

Rub the bumper with a crumpled-up piece of Reynolds Wrap aluminum foil dipped in Coca-Cola

To clean corrosion from car battery terminals :

Pour a can of Coca-Cola over the terminals to bubble away the corrosion

To loosen a rusted bolt :

Apply a cloth soaked in Coca-Cola to the rusted bolt for sometime

To remove grease from clothes :

Pour a can of Coke into a load of greasy clothes, add detergent, and run through a regular cycle. The Coca-Cola/Pepsi will help loosen grease stains

It will also clean road haze from car windshield

WE DRINK THIS STUFF!

OFF COURSE TO CLEAN OUR SYSTEM TOO. AFTER ALL WE ARE PAYING FOR IT.

ISN'I IT

For your information

The average pH of soft drinks, e.g. Coke & Pepsi is 3.4. This acidity is strong enough to dissolve teeth and bones! Our human body stops building bones at around the age of 30. After that it shall be dissolving the bones every year through the urine depending on the acidity of the food intake. All the dissolved calcium compounds get accumulated in the arteries, veins, skin, tissue and organs, which affects the functioning of the kidney assisting in formation of kidney stones.

Soft drinks do not have any nutritional value (in terms of vitamins and minerals). They have higher sugar content, higher acidity, and more additives such as preservatives and colorings. Some people like to take cold soft drinks after each meal, guess what's the impact?

The Impact?

Our body has an optimum temperature of 370 for the functioning of digestive enzymes. The temperature of cold soft drinks is much less than 37, sometimes quite close to 0. This lowers the effectiveness of the enzymes and puts stress on our digestive system, digesting less food. In fact the food gets fermented. The fermented food produces bad smelling, gases, decays and forms toxins, which are absorbed in the intestines, get circulated in the blood and is delivered to the whole body. This spread of toxins can lead to the development of various diseases.

Few Examples :

Two months ago, there was a competition in Delhi University "Who can drink the most Coke?" The winner drank 8 bottles and died on the spot because of too much carbon dioxide in the blood and not enough oxygen. From then on, the principal banned all soft drinks from the university canteen.

Someone put a broken tooth in a bottle of Pepsi and in 10 days it got dissolved! Teeth and bones are the only human organ that stays intact for years after death.

Imagine what the drink must be doing to your soft intestines and stomach lining!

Some action! / Bindu Madhav

Hello everyone,

The visit to Hivre Bazar was really educative and exciting. There is some more i want you to know and if possible 'to do'.

Recently i visited a village called Mithapur in Gujarat in regard with meeting with one of my company's clients. This is India's largest chemical factory with a 80 year oldplant established well. There i met the community development manager Mrs.Alka Talwar and had a lengthy discussion about the land, the farmers, the poverty level and the source of income of the villagers of Mithapur.

The facts that came out were - Mithapur is a drought prone area and is largely dependent on rain for irrigation. the land is rocky and people face a lot of difficulties in summer for water. The plant employees 3000 people of which around 50% or more are from the village in the workman category. There are water shed programs conducted in this village in attempt to store the rain water, bio diversity etc. Apart from this the community development cell also takes care of child education, women empowerment and providing a source of income to the women of the village through handicrats and arranging exhibitions for the sale of the same.

Most of the features of thevillage are similar to the pre and post development era of Hivre Bazar. I didn't feel that the water shed programs of this village are that effective as Hivre Bazar's. Then i told her about Hivre Bazar and Mr.Popat Pawar. Then i proposed the idea of exchange of best practices between the two villages regarding the watershed projects, women empowerment and other such activities for rural development. She was excited about the idea and welcomed the idea of getting better methods of implementing the same activities.

i am attempting to make a link between the two heads - Mr.Popat Pawar and Mrs.Alka Talwar.

As i was going through all these processes, (I am thinking aloud if u allow me.) i was caught in a series of thoughts that varied a lot and i always end up contradicting myself. the questions that arise are -Do these company's so called 'community development people' really mean in rural development as passionately and dedicatedly as a person like Popat Pawar? There are so many villages in Western India in Gujarat, south rajasthan and western UP which need such technical support and guidance for irrigation and other agri activities. There are thousands of such villages who donot have Popat Pawar or a plant which does community development programs for their development.... Believe me there are some villages around Delhi which do not haev the minimum facilities like electricity/ or if its there there is 8 hrs of powercut daily.

Just think, Can WE do some thing to help them in utilising their resources better and come out of their poverty??

I think we can. What if we volunteer to connect all these Popat Pawars to those rain fed villages so that the development achieved in Hivre Bazar is just not restricted to that place but is useful to the whole nation.

i have a rough idea of how it can be achieved - If the representatives of the villages can come over to villages like Hivre Bazar and stay there for say 3 to 6 months and learn the practices there and the culture into which the other village should blend into and other things. Its going to be very tough in the beginning but once it clicks in 2 -3 villages it is easy road ahead. Once some thing concrete is decided whether it is feasible or not, then a detailed implementation plan can be drawn and get it going.

Intervillage meetings can be arranged once in 6 months or so and make the people of various villages come together for a day to share their views on these issues. Many times amazingsolutions come out through such discussions.

I want to know how many are ready to volunteer for such a thing if it is in place and i want suggestions of implementing these.

We have resources and we can do it by taking some time off from our routine. - is what I feel. Moreover nothing is impossible if so many creative, young, determined brains are put together.

I want to hear ur views on my proposal so that i can share the future plans and developments of these activities.

regards,

Bindu

session notes of wednesday' 7th April' 04 class/ Subrata Mukherjee

hi!
the class continued from where it left the last time i.e. a good
discussion on "health". Mr. Abhishek Vidyabhanu narrated his experience when
he fell ill and had rto take medicines.Thereafter the discussion moved on to
diabetes and how USA is facing diabetes epidemic where children of the age
group of 3-4 years are becoming diiabetic. All these are because of
excessive use of medicines.

Vaccination is also a very dangerous thing for the health where the so
called experts reccommend its use but are not sure how it helps the health
and well being of an individual while at the same time it even cannot cure
the illness for which it was used at the first instance.

Another issue that came up for discussion was the use of shampoos which
contains high amount of harmfull chemicals. Same thing is true for
deodarants, soaps. One can easily lead a good life without using any of the
above mentioned items.Bye. subrata.

commentary of wednesdays class / Ganesh N

dear all
the last class was an real eye opener for many of us i
suppose if PG can convince us the level headed MBAS
that life exists without depending on medicines then
imagine what will happen if the common man also is
convinced companies like Pfizer skb will shut shop and
go. even i always used to ponder that animals like
elephants which have a similar life expectancy like
man never have the need to use medicines but do
survive happily. it is that man always in the recent
history began to have an reactive approach rather than
the proactive approach. when PG was saying in the
class that he stopped using medicines after
experimenting it was something worth trying but
probabaly no one in the class would really have the
patience to try it out including me with the kind of
schedules we will be having.Even the thought about
vaccination not having the desired effects but rather
having other side effects is also something we must
give a thought about. it is good that PG did not
discuss common medicines and left it on us to
experiment and find out. the problem is that we all
are fed to the fact that if we have a fever then
crocin would cure us none of us ever waited to see if
without it we will be cured or not.
